Blade Shearing Workshop

with Kevin Ford

Kevin Ford is a professional blade shearer. He first began to shear on a visit to his ancestral Ireland in 1975. In 1991 after achieving blade shearer certification from the New Zealand Wool Board, he sheared in the sheds of New Zealand's North Island. He now shears more than 5,000 sheep and goats each year from New England to the Carolinas. His book Shearing Day was published in 1999.

This is a rare opportunity for the small flock owner to learn the basic techniques necessary for shearing with hand blades. Participants will learn to prepare blades and master basic positions. Attendees should wear comfortable work clothes and shoes. It is recommended that you bring water or other suitable drinks and snacks. Lunch may not be available on the grounds. Enrollment will be strictly limited. No walk-ins allowed.
